Horse coat colors chart by Aomori Horse coat colors chart by Aomori
:star: DOWNLOAD :star: for full size

I'm presenting you a -side effect- of my recent work for Equirealm equisite. But I think it's nice to share it with you in this form :aww:

*entaie admin of Equirealm, commissioned from me quite a lot coat colors for all horses I previously painted.

I took American Saddlebred, as an example, added some descriptions and can show you this horse coat colors chart. I'm hoping that it's genetically correct, even Entaie have not seen this earlier :giggle:

I hope you don't mind me doing this, Enty :aww:

EDIT: Thank you for your support on this one! I have fixed some mistakes and added more colors :)

please notice that not all those colors can appear in purebleeed American Saddlebred horse. This nice american saddlebreed stally you see on the sheet is just a model for learning purposes :aww:

really nice one, how do you tell bucksin from dun tho?  we call a lot of the redish brown ones foxes but it might be just in my language
Aomori Featured By Owner Jan 27, 2016  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Duns have a very distinguish feature - so called "primitive" stripes - on legs and sometimes also on shoulders. I think that is the easiest way to tell the difference between buckskin and dun =)

How can you create so many coats from one single horse ?
Could you advise me a tutorial or any tips please ? :)
MarinaSoreon Featured By Owner Aug 16, 2013
Hey, this is really great =)
And I'm really interested in how you changed the horse color (without using a new shade).
I tried it too, but it doesn't work with the lighter colours :/
If you make a little tutorial, please add this point too.

I think you should add some of the rocky mountain horse colors, specifically the flaxen. I've seen some rockies that have a black coat with a white mane and tail. :)

Hmm, very interesting. :) Though what would you call the color of this Rocky Mountain Horse? [link] I don't often see dark horses with a light mane/tail.
horsebabe72418 Featured By Owner Aug 20, 2011
It's the flaxen gene that gives the RMH that color.
ahillamon Featured By Owner Aug 21, 2011  Hobbyist General Artist
Thanks, I didn't know that. :)
