Commission for Alcinda by Aomori Commission for Alcinda by Aomori
Sketch of a commisssion for :iconalcinda:
Thank you for commissioning me again hon :glomp:

I have been struggling with this one a bit. How to made it dark, but not too dark.. how to made the bg interesting, but to still keep it quite simple...  In the end I am rather happy of the outcome, please forgive me the sketchiness (do not ask how my photoshop file looks! I have never made such big mess with layers EVER :giggle:)

The character itself it a lovely bad boy, he will have a mask on his head, for now I just wanted to decide the light and colour palette, so his face is still naked. Please feel free to leave a comment and write me your preferences and suggestions. Maybe you will have any idea that will pop this art to a higher level? :aww: The bg is meant to be quite simple, but since Alcinda is commissinig me not for the first time I'll polish this art a bit more, so if you have any ideas - I am all ears.

PS: please forgive me the poses below without any markings - it was quite early stage I decided to show anyway. Maybe Jennifer will like this longer haired version? (A) Or the other placement of the head? (B)
PS2: little explanation: the previous commission is now on hold for few months, so I started to work on this one.
PS3: Have you really read it all? I feel honored :giggle:

Omg, wersja 1. wygląda jak wyjęta z Inkwizycji! :D Znaczy, krajobraz.

:glomp:

Personally I love version 1 with pose B - I think the mountains frame him nicely and the second pose kind of seems more angry to me for some reason. Though if you went with that pose, I'd maybe suggest lowering the tail a bit? Either pose works though, he looks beauuutiful!

And I love the long flowy mane you gave him in the bottom poses, too. I wouldn't mind if you kept it like that in the final version. c:

Yes, I read everything :) Cause if someone is writing something additional for a picture it should be read - my opinion.

I like pose A more and background... uff, both are beautiful and awesome in their way. If I had to choose one I would say version 2. There's some kind of freedom in it that fits the character very good, just as I can say by not knowing him very well. Simply feeling like that.

I usually read everything too. I  especially like when arts have stories connected to them, personally I am more of a painter than a writer so I am leaving everything to the viewer's imagination :giggle

Thank you

I believe contrast is best in 2 because of the lighting differences and the way the figure stands out -- though 1 seems to blend in and be less "isolated" --- and pose A is more natural. It's not too typical for horses to twist their head to the outside like that because it is uncomfortable sometimes and doesn't look like a natural pose to me since it's body is angled more to the inside ... That's my observation. I imagine a rider in pose B pulling the horse's head ....

Yes, the second background it was more contrasting, actually it was my main idea to made the background bright against the dark character :) About the head in pose B... maybe struggling against strong wing might cause such awkward pose, I dunno

I think the contrast between the background and the horns of the critter is a lot better in version 1 and pose B looks a bit more dynamic and mobile.

All four versions are incredible and unique in their own way. Personally I like version 1 of the finished result the most. It is softer, the snow blends in better with the background and looks more interesting to the eye as a whole. But however I also think the longer hair is a very attractive touch. It fits the "lovely bad boy" description of the character pretty good.

Thank you <3 I like the long hair too, I always like long hairs :la:  it was just a little out of design here, so I removed it

I like pose B best! Looks a little like he is going against the storm.

Now from someone who notoriously can't do better than a sunny background, maybe adding a chain of mountains in the distance, to the right of the picture?

Can't wait to see it finished! :) (Smile)
